The Collegiate Relations Committee will be launching the Surfing Sisters Mentoring Program in January 2011. The mentoring program will primarily assist those collegians who plan on going directly into the workforce after graduation and those who are choosing to attend graduate school. Furthermore, we have collegians in specific areas of study that either need guidance with the path they have chosen, want to determine if their course of study is for them, need some assistance in sorting out what they would like to do post-college or simply have questions they would like answered. Each mentor will be paired up with one mentee. Moreover, each mentor can determine how much time they have to devote to this program as well as in what ways they are willing to assist a mentee.
At this time, we are putting out a call for volunteers for this program. You do not have to be currently employed in the area in which you obtained your degree-we are looking for anyone who has knowledge that they wish to share with our collegians. We need mentors in all areas of study. There is a great need for mentors in the area of education. If you are interested in mentoring, please send me a PM by Friday, January 7, 2011 at midnight eastern time with the following information:
-Your Name
-Your Initiation Year/Name of School or University
-Your degrees/areas of study
-If you went directly into the workforce or went to graduate/professional school
-If employed, where and your job title
-How much time would you be able to spend mentoring a mentee?
-In which areas you would be willing to assist a mentee (answering questions; meeting with them face to face/having them shadow you on the job if geographically possible; conversing with them about your experiences in your area of study; preparing them to go out into the workforce or applying to graduate school; review a resume or graduate school application; discuss what you liked/did not like about your area of study, anything else in which you would be willing to do with a mentee).
We have many sisters who come from many educational backgrounds. Assisting our collegians in the academic realm is one of the greatest gifts we can provide them. Please consider participating in this program. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
